Step 2 · Your team · The Playbook

Get more out of the team you already have.

Most teams can do more than the business gets from them. The Playbook gives every person clear ownership, the right to decide and one place for the work in ninety days. Then we review it every quarter against your own numbers, so it holds. Leadership first, then department by department.

  • More profitClear ownership, and one number every team moves
  • More efficiencyDecisions stop waiting on you

where we stand

Send them to an offsite.

Most teams don’t need more people. They need fewer questions.

What gets put in place

Six parts, in order. One session each.

Each session is one hour with up to six people. The order matters: decisions can only be delegated once work has one place to live, and nobody can own a result until the team has agreed on one.

Built for founders and CEOs whose company works and still waits on them. One person or thousands, The Playbook is the same: headcount is a number, not a different program.

01 · The team book

Understand how your people work.

Everyone answers six questions privately, then the answers are shared in the session. Each person ends up with a page on every colleague, including how they take hard feedback and how they give it.

02 · The communication policy

Put work and communication in one place.

The team agrees on one place where work lives and three channels for questions: one for text, one for voice, one for video. The leader signs it, and it is reviewed every quarter.

03 · Levels of delegation

Clarify who can make which decisions.

Three levels: manage, lead and empower. Each person learns what authority they have on each process and what earns them more, including how to bring you a problem with options and a recommendation instead of a question.

04 · Battle cards

Document the processes your business relies on.

Processes that live in one person’s head are written down in The Cave™, the online workspace your team uses, with an owner and a review date.

05 · The game plan

Choose a measurable team goal.

One number the department already reports, checked that it is clear, within the team’s control and tied to the business. Then the few moves that will improve it.

06 · Individual impact plans

Give every person clear ownership.

Each person knows their level, the one thing they own that moves the team’s number, and how they will be reviewed each month.

How the year runs

Ninety days to put it in place. Then regular reviews.

The first ninety days

Your leadership team works through the six sessions, then other departments follow on their own schedule. Everything the team produces lives in The Cave™: the team book, the communication policy, who holds which decisions, the documented processes and the team’s goal.

Every month

You send the team’s number from a report you already produce, and get back a short written read of what it shows. No meeting is needed.

Every quarter

We review six things with you: your number, whether the agreed moves happened, whether processes are current, whether the communication policy is being followed, and whether people and their managers are growing. Anything that falls short gets a clear next step and a date.

Quarterly reviews check whether the practices are being used. Companies that meet the requirements can earn Brave Cave certification, Brave Cave’s own program. How certification works

Step 3 · Your business

When the game plan calls for more.

Once the team owns the work, the monthly game plan shows where the business is short. That is when we bring in product and engineering, marketing, sales or support, inside the same plan and the same relationship.

How Brave Cave works

Practices inside your company, reviewed against your own numbers.

The work happens inside your business, with your team, on the decisions and processes you already deal with. Progress is checked every quarter against evidence and the numbers you already report, not against opinions. Your leadership team works with Brave Cave directly, and I lead the work myself. It is step 2 of one path: you first, your team, then the business when the game plan calls for it.

What it asks of your team

Six one-hour sessions, up to six people in each.

Your leadership team goes first. Other departments follow on their own schedule, and a larger department is split into groups of six or fewer. You choose how the six sessions are spread out.

One intensive day

All six sessions in one day for each group. For teams that can only step away from the work once.

Your people: about 6 hours of sessions, once.
Spread

An hour every two weeks, for about twelve weeks. People put each session into practice before the next one.

Your people: 1 hour every two weeks, about 12 weeks.
SplitMost teams

Two half-days a few weeks apart. What most teams choose.

Your people: two half-days, a few weeks apart.

Pricing and term

Scoped by department, never by head.

Every employee in a department is included, so adding people never changes the engagement. What shapes it is how many departments you start with, and you can start with just your leadership team. We scope the engagement with you after your first conversation. Non-profits get a reduced rate.

Twelve-month initial term. It takes a quarter to put the practices in place and a quarter to see them hold, so the first term is a year.

Is it a fit?

Who this is built for.

It fits when

  • Everyone's working hard on slightly different versions of the same goal
  • People are polite with each other instead of honest
  • Status updates take longer than the work
  • You're the only person who knows what everyone is doing
  • Someone has been avoiding the same thing for months and everyone knows it

It isn't the right fit when

  • You want a one-day offsite and a laminated card
  • You want the team fixed without changing how you run it
  • You're looking for a personality assessment
  • You need someone to deliver bad news on your behalf
